Not quite sure why, but 80’s-inspo funkadelia is making waves in Toronto. Just last week, we discussed The Techno Hall of Fame’s groovy electro-ballad, Sway In The Dark, and now, we’re finding ourselves listening on repeat to the synth strokes and vocal massage of Toronto’s house party DJ turned radio presence, Jim Junior and his latest, Is It The Right Time. Like the late 80’s pop radio hit we always wished for but never quite got, Is It The Right Time walks a rare tightrope between what we love about cheesy pop and what we love about the modern funk movement. In effect, its balance is what makes it such a listenable track, and so broad-based for audiences of differing opinions. Its cheese is what makes it so approachable.

“Is It The Right Time is really about that transcendental moment when love (or what looks like love) first hits you. It’s not fluffy or sentimental, but intoxicating and wild. It’s that instant when the possibilities seem endless and you feel nervous yet free, like no matter what happens it will all work out somehow.”

A fun-loving, harmless bit of groove to bring a smile to your face and some warmth to the winter.
