DAILY FOCUS
On December 10, 2017, we decided to commit to a daily writeup; a daily exploration of a release – a single, a mixtape, an EP, an album, or a video; a Daily Focus. It granted us a constant glimpse into the state of music, countless connections, and a labyrinth of songs we’ll listen to for the rest of our lives. On October 10, 2020 – more than 1,000 Daily Focus writeups later – we wrote our last.
We’ll, of course, continue writing plenty of spotlighting pieces on music; continue to explore at great depth the route we began nearly three years ago. But, with the foundation that Daily Focus built for us, removing ourselves now from the responsibility of one immersive exploration of music every single day, will give us, among other things, more time to explore topics at even greater depth.
The Daily Focus Project will be a permanent part of our magazine, living in perpetuity as one of the most telling, immersive looks into the state of Hip-Hop, R&B, Neo-Soul, Afro Fusion, Mellow Pop, Electronic, and Acoustic from 2017 to 2020.
