SZA is Back with Aptly Named 'Hit Different' Featuring Ty Dolla $ign

It’s been a minute. If we’re talking proper SZA singles, it’s been since 2017 when she was marching towards the unparalleled release of cntrl. Sure, her roles in soundtracks from The Back Panther and the incredibly musically adept track list for Trolls World Tour worked in unison with the occasional feature to ensure we kept her in the back of our minds as an undisputed modern R&B queen. But, having her back in full bloom feels even more necessary. Hit Different does exactly what its title suggests. And folding in the sensual leanings of Ty Dolla $ign, it reminds us all why Top Dawg takes it to another level, even if their releases tend towards the few and far between.
Hit Different sets a new path in motion for the powerhouse soulstress, expectedly dropping a rangy romantic anthem, while unexpectedly dropping in general terms. Hopefully more is on the way, because a SZA album amidst so much worldly uncertainty wouldn’t only change the course of R&B and Neo-Soul, but would bring some much needed tranquility and love to a world in pain. For now, Hit Different hits right.
