Toronto’s K. Forest releases music at a pace unmatched by his peers. Having just released Forest Fire ll – a vibrant, long June album – he’s already back with another single, Playa Playa. We shouldn’t be so surprised. This is an artist who, in the wake of the torrent success his breakout single Link enjoyed, released an unprecedented string of 11 singles culminating in this summer’s album. None of them were throwaway tracks, and the album was an inventive exploration of the futurist Toronto soundscape.

 

Likewise, Playa Playa is experimental and quality at the level that we have come to expect from K. Forest. Equally expected is its sound which, like all of his work, exists fluidly between R&B and hip-hop without a cemented range. A melodic, slow-moving ballad, Playa Playa is another addition to K. Forest’s canon that continues to push his boundaries and drive forward at a relentless pace his emerging construct en masse.
