Where heartbroken maturity and old souls meet the intricate fragilities of university a Capella clubs, Memphis-turned LA neo-soul twins, Mulherin have placed their debut project, Human Nature. The bizarre descriptions don’t end there because from track to track, Human Nature feels like a lot of experimental takes on some of history’s most polarizing vocal forces. Elements taken from a boyband construct harmonize with those taken from Boyz ll Men. 90’s R&B blends seamlessly into near-folk acoustic vocalism. Overtop gentle guitar chords and a mastery of modern production techniques that place their dynamic duality center stage, Mulherin uncover something that is at the end of the day, best not to be described at all.

Save with the assistance of one word: ingenuity.

Human Nature is a pinnacle project in terms of its raw emotion evoked cleanly through ever rawer vocals. But the difference separating Mulherin from anyone else who in this day in age are experimenting with a post-genre approach to emotio-vocally-centered music, is that theirs has no bounds. There is no clear Mulherin sonic direction comparable to another of the present or the past.

Tethers can be tied, comparisons can be drawn, but in finality, Human Nature stands sonically independent as an explorative albeit at times uncomfortable and imperfect piece of creative ingenuity.

Definitely worth its spot in a few playlists stemming from the romantic and the sensual to the heartbroken and the tried.
