We’re going to do our best to keep up with the young lord of St. Louis as he makes his way towards speculative albumhood, but when Smino gets on a roll, no one is really fast enough. With Smino Noir supposedly on its way in the very near future, and now another single to strengthen our hopes, KLINK is a gorgeously signature sign of what’s to come. With an experimentally magnificent beat that could have come from no one other than Smino’s longtime friend and collaborative producer, Monte Booker, Smino does what he does best, diving in and out of sing-songy deliveries and effortlessly laying down lyricism that would tie the tongue of any other artist in knots.

He is Dr. Seuss reborn with the fun-loving voice and under a mop both fitting of his cartoon character. But it doesn’t mean he shouldn’t be taken seriously. blkswn was after all, the best album in all of 2017.

And from the sounds of things so far – whether we’re talking his A-Side / B-Side cut, 4sport, guest spot on Noname’s immaculate Room 25, recent single L.M.F., or the bounce of KLINK, Smino is out to prove once again that no one can do what he can. And at a time when individuality and uniqueness are worth more than almost anything in music, Smino is primed for another explosively influential project.
