Smino Explores Lyrical Ability's Thematic Reach with Animated L.M.F.

Whatever it is that modern music seems to prioritize – quality, energy, individuality – no one is doing it better than Smino. He, with his signature effortless flow, unreplicable aesthetic, and impossibly unique approach to lyricism and songwriting often takes measures to further ensure his quality by recruiting the rest of the world’s most influential musicians. It’s gotten to the point that his music is so innately innovative that it doesn’t even matter what the fuck he’s talking about. In fact, the more left-of-center and untraditional, the more it seems to enmesh with his one-of-a-kind delivery, which is why his newest single, engineered by Sàngo, is a bouncy three-minute exhibition of his lyrical dominance, and at its core, a discussion of his favorite Disney film.

L.M.F. (Lion Mufasa) is all about The Lion King. And why not? A pair of classics if ever there were two, Smino and The Lion King go together like the sonic roots of St. Louis and Chicago. It’s impossible proof by any other artist that a songwriter can be so good at what he does, he can make anything, even with everyone listening closely, and it can still be gold.

In taking advantage of such a perfect moment and momentum, the single is accompanied by welcome news that Smino is also on his way with sophomore album, Smino Noir, supposedly due November 8. He even hinted at a video for the new track.

Smino Season is herr and we couldn’t be happier.
