SAINt JHN Recruits Lil Baby & Delivers Something Unexpected w/ Trap
Evan Dale // Mar 1, 2019
After a pair of incredibly high-energy, brutally violent single releases, McDonald’s Rich and White Parents Are Gonna Hate This, SAINt JHN is showing us once again why he’s one of the broadest and most musically underrated artists in the modern scene. There is no doubt that he can compete in the realm of great modern lyricists, that he can deliver anthemic party records, and that he can look really damn good while doing it all – already becoming an international symbol of sex and style. But there is also no doubt – or at least should not be – that he is also capable of putting together tracks of a very different feel and attracting a very different audience.
With his new single, Trap, which features fellow young gun on the rise, Lil Baby, SAINt JHN takes on the role of emotional vocalist, showing off his sung range and setting the stage for an altogether slower and more easily digestible radio hit. It’s nothing new to him. True fans know that some of his best records – think Selfish & Reflex – owe their individuality and uniqueness to his ability to be a bold, broad artist, but it’s nice to see him get back it again.
Recent interviews indicate that Collection Two is on the way, and be that the case considering his explosive growth since 2018’s debut project, we’re in for something special.
