Myquale (Jhon) Shines with Retro-Nuanced Freestyle, Proud

Myquale (formerly predicated by Jhon) finds signature in a certain dark energy and intensity that not only compliments his deep vocal delivery, but also seems to come natural from his soul. His 2018 EP, Flight Theory was one of the more darkly unique projects of the year and brought with it a bold vision of hip-hop’s future where Chicago’s anti-reality art-school heroes run the game.

Before the year is up, he returns with another deliverable that comes in a form only somewhat recognizable when weighed against the rest of his 2018 catalogue. Proud is the kind of freestyle we want to hear more of crawling through the SoundCloud floorboards where brash lyricism coincides with absurdist (and mildly confusing) production, rather than falling complete victim to it. A retro nuance can’t help but be felt as his penmanship steals the stage from what is nothing more than a bizarre beat loop that does nothing but to add an emotional edge. It’s a classic freestyle that not only proves Myqaule can spit (we already knew that he could), but that he can do it over absolutely any backdrop, or maybe even none at all.

Look out for 2019 as Chicago is bound to continue its torrid pace towards conscious rap and bold individuality.
