Billy Lemos Switches it up with Another Dynamic Cut, Stuck
Evan Dale // Sep 3, 2018
Since we first found ourselves fortunate enough for an introduction to the musical dynamism of Billy Lemos, his dynamic berth has only widened more. From the hip-hop influenced mellow pop cut, Burb, to a SoundCloud era take on a coffeehouse chiller, Rain, one would think that there was little room for further divergence in 2018. Then came Stuck, and we were all proven wrong.
The single, his third from upcoming Fall project, AWKWARD, and featuring vocalist, Family Reunion, is certainly mellow and of his signature bubbly neo-pop production, but once again fails to fall in line with anything or anyone else in modern music.
The young 19-year-old’s long run has been driven by that very uniqueness and unexpectedness, where his personal bizarre is comprised of whatever elements he sees fit but are held together with the firm tether of his mature talent.
Though Lemos finds his place behind the track, it’s hard to say that his production doesn’t share the stage equally with his talented guest spot. Complicated layers of tropically reminiscent guitar chords and whooshing electronic drum patterns slide seamlessly in and out of Family Reunion’s emotion-ridden, sultry-smooth vocals, landing the final product as yet another pavestone in the ever-expending and by definition, indefinable mellow pop circuit.
