Skepta Drops A Brace of Singles En Route to First Album Since 2016

A pair of leading singles en route to his first album since 2016’s acclaimed Konnichiwa have placed the lord of the modern UK hip-hop scene, Skepta, back at the forefront of the international limelight. An ode to the continuous burgeoning of the A-Side / B-Side movement that has swept through hip-hop the last year-and-a-half, Bullet From A Gun &Greaze Mode as a pair display the range, energy, and mood that have long delineated Skepta’s canon.
Bullet From A Gun is particularly lyrical and emotional – even from Skepta – who has no trouble putting together a meaningful track just as he has no issue releasing a high-energy anthem. And honestly, Bullet From A Gun is both. Resting on the foundations of an electronically-experimental, synth-driven beat, Skepta tears into hip-hop’s colonnade from all angles – lyricism, melody, flow.
Greaze Mode bringing an entirely different vibe and featuring a guest spot from Nafe Smallz, still rides a complimentary bit of production and puts on display Skepta’s inability to avoid the high-energy. The track is definitely the party anthem of the two, driven by Nafe Smallz’ best Travis Scott impersonation and emerging a hi-fi banger that perfectly frames Skepta’s still very relevant and powerful delivery.
Together, the A-Side / B-Side release come as an introduction to Ignorance Is Bliss, due out May 31.
