Chet Faker’s Nick Murphy experiment has been one of the more intriguing but distant storylines in recent music history, and in fact is difficult to really pin down. The Australian producer and vocalist of experimental bliss dropped his old moniker in favor of his given one but failed in committing fully to the transition. Still releasing music as Nick Murphy / Chet Faker to this day, the transition and the music seemed to fall into limbo. When his debut EP under the new name, Missing Link, came in 2017, there was some question about what spurred the shift creatively and whether or not he would be able to regain the grip he had on music now that he was taking up a different lane with a different name.

But for the first time, with the release of Sanity, Murphy seems to have unearthed something simultaneously special and new, separated from his legacy and popularity as Chet Faker. An open, honest, and heartfelt look in the mirror, Sanity’s name itself is what through his lyrics Murphy seems to have finally found again. At peace with his choices and comfortable with his new direction, Sanity comes as the leading single to Run Fast Sleep Naked, Murphy’s debut album expected April 26.
