Poetry and Creative Risks Once Again Define Maxwell Young
Evan Dale // Feb 7, 2019
From the experimentally-inclined mind of New Zealand’s Maxwell Young can be expected poetry and creative risks. After all, that – in combination with his obvious talent – is what’s made him a figure of the online era of DIY boundlessness and boldness. 2018’s Daydreamer was an emotional roller coaster of acoustic bedroom pop innovation, and with a steady stream of SoundCloud cuts, he’s always changing not only his sound, but the direction of young, indefinable artists everywhere.
A new track, Flesh & Blood, is short, sweet, and brimming with poetic nuances and experimentally wild production in a way that merges the broad range of his music’s ever adjusting past. And without any clear-cut way to describe it, it’s a beautiful microcosm of what the DIY circuit is truly after.
Pure creation.
