London Vocalist Kwaku Asante has a Sound Worth its Weight in Gold

Ah, Worth – the eternally controversial word we use to measure quality and value on a variety of shuffling spectrums and scales. Some things are easier to define than others, some more difficult to merit, but we’re confident when we say that London vocalist, Kwaku Asante and his new single are worth their weight in gold.

It’s always a surprise when an artist of such petit canon comes along with the force and maturity of a practiced veteran, but that’s exactly what the soulful range and emotionally evoking lyricism of Asante bring to the table. An apparent master of the uplifting ballad, his past deliverables, of which there are two, paint a wider landscape of sonic undertakings from the more smooth and sensually R&B (Pause) to the ability to front an electronic composition (The Way You Move).

Preference is personal, as is Worth and that’s why we value it so strongly. There are elements of Asante’s vocal approach reminiscent of both the capability and the unique indefinability of some of London’s most prized songwriters, and in that respect, he has no ceiling. In other respects, i.e. his range, he seems to have no limiting walls barring his form and genre.

Worth feels particularly belonging to the gospel-influenced corner of neo-soul, where London, on a global scale, is its modern capital. Surrounded by the influence and talent of that city, coupled with the absurdity of talent and expanding range in his pocket, Kwaku Asante is primed for soulful starlight, and Worth is primed for your autumn playlists.
