Alongside news that their heavily anticipated debut album is officially being released on December 13, funk-soul collective, the Free Nationals have released their fifth leading single, Shibuya. In accordance of their previous four, Shibuya is another track hosting a renowned vocalist. And this time, its internet frontwoman and complete package of soulstress badassery, Syd.

 

Shibuya is impossibly smooth and silky; funk in its foundational texture; understated soul in Syd’s vocal soundscape. True to themselves as masters of laying the most fitting of frameworks for their starry guest spots, the Free Nationals in composition take the reins while taking a backseat to the limelight of Syd’s always evocative and provocative delivery. 

 

Needless to say, the entire world – at least those who find themselves fans of Neo-Soul, funk, jazz, hip-hop, or Rock & Roll – are looking forward to seeing what else next month’s release will bring.
