Casey Veggies, Rockie Fresh & Hit-Boy Celebrate Nipsey Hussle & More with 'Miss My Dawgs'
Evan Dale // July 8, 2020
In a tribute to Nipsey Hussle is a well-balanced place from which one of the West Coast’s more underrated veterans, Casey Veggies, finds himself returning the limelight. Just as fitting of a space for Veggies to create is hand-in-hand with longtime friend and collaborator, Rockie Fresh with whom he released legendary 2013 project, Fresh Veggies. And now, fresh on the heels of news that the painfully long wait for Fresh Veggies ll is almost over, Miss My Dawgs is a welcome single release for so many reasons.
Produced by Hit-Boy – another staple of the undeniably West Coast cloth – the single breathes of mixtape era rawness from everyone involved, bringing to mind memories of Fresh Veggies’ original release and of Nipsey’s long run with hit after underground hit before breaking out into the celebrated upper rap ranks with 2018’s Victory Lap. For that reason, and for the always cool, collected delivery of Veggies – the always fluid, immersive flow of Rockie Fresh – Miss My Dawgs is anthemic and necessary.
