Boogie Back Again with Short Track & Video, Deja Vu
Evan Dale // Aug 30, 2018
By the hands of any other artist, a track coming in at under two minutes would feel like an unjust tease, but West Coast juggernaut, Boogie has never failed to be different. Déjà Vu is just that – a track so unique and impossible to replicate that it never could have been done before. And yet, it feels familiar.
Built on the acoustic guitar Boogie’s more downtempo deliveries have grown signature to, the complexity of the lyricism we expect, and another look into his affinity for the world of music videos, Déjà Vu keeps us right where we’ve been since we first heard Bitter Raps – on the edge of our seats, patiently awaiting more from one of the most underrated musicians in music.
Since his signing to Shady last year, Boogie has released a wide-ranging A-Side / B-Side cut (Came Up & Violence), an explosive, anthemic banger (Self Destruction), and now, a more emotional and introspective take to keep his expanding canon’s balance intact. And through the brevity of Déjà Vu, it finds its both emotionally connective and impossibly intriguing success.
