Alex Wiley, Mick Jenkins, and Azizi Gibson? We’re in. The trio of talented, vibey, low-fi wordsmiths had us excited when they released the single, Like MacGyver two weeks ago and it’s still growing on us. All three artists bring their unique skills to the song, leaving their marks with impeccable flow, creative wordplay, and a smattering of laugh-worthy punch lines. But it‘s not all fun and games. The bouncy hook contrasts well with the dark, serious-toned bars dropped throughout the song, providing it a stronger foundation and making it more consistent with the past music of all three.

Both Alex Wiley and Azizi Gibson released full projects in 2017, and both were exceptionally strong. We did however fail to receive the annual album that we’ve grown to expect from Mick Jenkins, leaving Like MacGyver particularly well timed for an audience growing impatient for new music from Chicago’s most lyrical young artist. Hopefully this means more music from him soon, and perhaps more future collaborations between the three talented rappers.
