An obvious selection for today’s Daily Focus, Huncho Jack, Jack Huncho, by way of Travis Scott and Quavo is exactly what you would expect it to be: a 41-minute hype fest. Signature low-fidelity production, clean sampling, and paced, mellow bars leave Scott’s stamp on the project, while Quavo comes with his classic energy and go-to flow. Also expected, the other members of the Migos, Offset and Takeoff, make their appearances.

 

Honestly, there’s nothing in particular to fault about the album. It has the insane energy that has always made the bangers of both artists prominent at parties, clubs, and stadiums. It exhibits the prowess of Scott and Quavo to successfully work within the bounds of one another, and puts on display their signature sound that has come to define modern hip-hop. It provides fan bases of both even more music from two artists who are constantly featured and releasing music of their own. It’s solid.

 

But at first glance, that’s all it is. Although it has no standout faults, it also has no… standouts. It is altogether too predictable. From two artists whose careers have flourished with their talent and courage to experiment, the project is lacking complexity and boldness that would have truly shone through from such a powerhouse collaboration. It’s not that we were expecting more. Huncho Jack, Jack Huncho is exactly what we were expecting and that’s the problem.
