Maxwell Young, Dragonflies & his Stretch of Experimentation & Emotion
Evan Dale // Mar 9, 2019
Maxwell Young continues to release and continues to evolve. As a key artist standing at the helm of the mellow pop explosion spurred by digital music and all-in-one production possibility, he seemingly is moving forward with nothing but an open mind as to what his creativity and the larger art form of bedroom pop can be. He’s a dynamo of creativity and youth as prolific as artists come. Sketches Of Dragonflies is his sixth single in little over a month, and the sixth one to truly possess its own auditory aesthetic. Tethered together by poeticism and experimentalism, Sketches Of Dragonflies is undoubtedly of Maxwell Young’s texture. But that texture is equally defined by a lack of definition. A particularly floaty track, even for his experimental self, it’s a poppy, layered piece of mellow pop masterpiece that should never be possible in a solo effort.
Speaking on the track, Maxwell says, 'Sketches of Dragonflies is about maladaptive daydreaming, romanticism, moving away from home, hypochondria & fighting the melancholic fear of losing yourself when losing someone.'
