J.A.E. & Dotty Team Up for South London R&B Throwback, Poison

In its muted, bluesy keys exist the most underlying of old school vibes of J.A.E. and Dotty’s Poison. But the reminiscence goes deeper than that. The new single by way of the collaborative South London pair is a mellow warm-weather anthem. It accomplishes through each artist’s vibrant deliveries, through the bluesy organ instrumentation, and through its closing breakdown, something difficult to do, but becoming ever-more-commonplace in the modern R&B circuit: an aesthetic reminiscent of the late 90’s, early 00’s R&B golden era.
In its exploration of Poison relationships, it breathes of TLC’s No Scrubs. In its auditory aesthetic, it boasts the poppy approachability of an early Corinne Bailey Rae or a mellow Erykah Badu. And with the addition of a lyrically-endowed verse from Dotty granting stylistic breadth and a more intriguing storyline, Poison is rounded out and unearths something truly special.
