The Free Nationals Continue Collaborative Rollout with On Sight

Through less than a year, the Free Nationals have embarked down a path of single releases that would make any other band envious. Featuring Daniel Caesar, Kali Uchis, Mac Miller, and now JID, Kadhja Bonet, and MIKNNA, their list of guest artists is symbolic of just how veteran the Free Nationals actually are. At times, it’s easy to forget that their three career singles, Beauty & Essex, Time, and On Sight fail to paint their broader truth as Anderson .Paak’s longtime band, and that through production and release of three albums in as many years, they’ve come to refine their sound and garner incredible connections in the industry.
But none of that takes away from just how special their direction is becoming. A funky foundation for a number of collaborators who’d otherwise not have the opportunity to work with one another; a bold stylistic backdrop for vocalists looking for complexity and depth, the Free Nationals are bringing inventiveness, timelessness, and experimentation back to music.
On Sight is their newest single, and it pulls into the funk-driven fold the divine poeticism of JID, the silk of Kadhja Bonet, and the buttery emotionality of MIKNNA. The result is – like everything the Free Nationals are to release thus far – completely unexpected, absurdly inventive, and boldly sensual. On Sight is another hit.
