The Free Nationals strike again. Like a modern Funk Brothers, the instrumental collaborative has spent their entire independent career sans the vocal front-manning of Anderson .Paak releasing one-off single with some of the most sought-after vocalists and songwriters in music. First, Beauty & Essex with the sonic silk of young R&B king, Daniel Caesar; then funk-laden Time with a posthumous verse from Mac Miller and the sultry vocals of Kali Uchis; On Sight with JID, Kadhja Bonet and MIKNNA; and now, Eternal Light with Jamaican reggae veteran, Chronixx. 

 

Eternal Light is yet another experimental cut from the Free Nationals, and unsurprisingly, yet another hit. With the emotive cool of Chronixx, the track is a coalescence of reggae, funk, hip-hop, and soul. And done in the clean and refined way that the Free Nationals do, it succeeds in enticing an ear tuned to any of those stylings. Quickly becoming one of the more important groups in music for their ability to bring together so many sounds and styles, the Free Nationals are continuing to work towards a proper debut project, so keep an ear out.
