Say what you will about hip-hop artists, say what you will about rappers, but whatever you say or think, you’re lying if you deny the reach that these artists have when they decide to head down the romantic path. Whether unexpected works of genius from some of rap’s toughest customers (think 50 Cent’s 21 Questions and T.I.’s Whatever You Like) or sultry sex jams from more expected sources (think Lil Wayne’s Lollipop and Dr. Dre’s and Nate Dogg’s Xplosive) hip-hop love ballads are often some of the most revered tracks in an artist’s canon.
For an artist as prolific as Chuuwee, with five albums released in 2017 alone and 13 in a career born less than four years ago, a slow jam is nothing out of the question, but that doesn’t mean his Valentine’s Day single, The Sound of Love, doesn’t deserve recognition. It’s the light-hearted kind of track to swoon you and your partner on a second date; it’s the innocent kind of track to provide a more approachable definition of puppy love; it’s the perfect kind of track for all of us to become more dedicated Chuuwee fans.
