Sundress | A$AP Rocky Recruits Danger Mouse, Frank Lebon & Tame Impala

Hate him or love him, you’d be hard pressed to find any artist in the mainstream limelight with more creative courage or a more innovative eye than A$AP Rocky. It’s been a banner year for the Harlem native turned multi-tiered global icon, dropping his heavily experimental yet simultaneously celebrated album, Testing, featuring in a usual swatch of colorful guest spots, and announcing a large-scale tour on deck. And now he’s here to put the exclamation point on it all with 3-minutes of more clever, creative art than most people will muster throughout their lives – but to be fair, there are a lot of other names involved.
Sundress, an expectedly experimental single with accompanying visuals to boot brings together a myriad of creative geniuses. The production, which samples Tame Impala’s Why Won’t You Make Up Your Mind, also features the steady hand of Danger Mouse, while the video is directed by visual mastermind Frank Lebon. Coming together, the immersive project feels more like an interpretive short film than it does a hip-hop music video, telling a riveting storyline, doing so in incredibly creative fashion, and leaving plenty of unanswered, discussion-worthy questions by the time it’s over.
The track itself, which may get overlooked by the rest of the collaborative effort, is bold and futurist to the tune of everything else Rocky has had his hand in crafting recently.
