Two 2020 singles from Aaron Taylor; two high-profile collaborations made fluid in coalescing perfection. Where first came the emotive duet, Don’t Leave Me Alone, folding in the signature of Lalah Hathaway, now comes Shooting Star featuring experimental Amsterdam vocalist, Benny Sings. And, just like its single predecessor, Shooting Star is both a look into how the budding London Neo-Soul vocalist, instrumentalist, and songwriter has grown since 2018’s The Long Way Home and how that growth allows him to stand on equal footing with some of today’s most unique and important artists.

 

Shooting Star is a mellow, funk-driven jam flowing from the understated and introspective to bouts of explosive choral progressions begging for the dance floor. Both artists see some well-curated vocal editing that places the songs entirety into an atmospheric, spacey otherworld where neither Taylor nor Benny Sings are in their usual element, yet where both thrive in its experimental nuances. At its confluence of so many experimental waves, Shooting Star is another new example that Aaron Taylor continues to forge his own unparalleled  path in music, experimenting smartly and cultivating further growth of his already established bread and butter – emotion-evoking penmanship, instrumental foundations, and that beautiful voice.
