You know it’s a good day when Boogie blesses us with a new single, and the versatile rapper just released two. In the past, Boogie has displayed his ability to release hyped up hip-hop party anthems like Oh My and No Way, hard-hitting lyric-centric stories of struggle like Needs and Further, and emotional, slow-dance-worthy love songs like Sunroof and Found You. Differing drastically, his brand new releases, Came Up and Violence successfully exhibit his signature wide range.
The former is a fast-paced, bouncy beat over which Boogie reflects on his not so distant past full of economic turmoil, while delivering punishing insults to those who have wronged him along the way.
The latter, which features the unmistakably smooth groove of genre-defying artist, Masego, brings us on another kind of journey. The kind of slow jam that rappers nowadays just don’t release enough of, Violence proves that Boogie has the versatility it takes to become a top hip-hop artist in the modern genre.
The two singles are his first release since his signing with Shady Records in October. We’re just hoping that it means more music is on the way soon and that maybe, because of the range of today’s release, an album is in the works. Either way, thank you Boogie.
