I usually take my Dom Kennedy with a glass of lemonade and a side order of Southern California summer sunshine, but we’re not complaining about the timing. It’s no secret that Dom Kennedy has been a constant and immeasurably influential rapper on the hip-hop scene for the past decade. Every great West Coast artist from old heads like DJ Quik to up-and-comers like Casey Veggies and Boogie to the king himself, Kendrick Lamar, have collaborated with Dom. But the latest installment from his string of projects with Hit Boy, under the name Half-A-Mil, might be his best collaboration to date.
Half-A-Mil released their first project in 2016. Their most recent release, which incredibly is their fourth EP in less than two years, came just a few weeks ago and we haven’t stopped listening to it since. Typical to both artists, Courtesy of Hal-A-Mil is classic West Coast production exhibiting bouncy, synth-heavy beats underneath a variety of interesting features; Jay 305, Ty Dolla $ign, and Larry June to name a few.
